3 JUNE 2017, 2 TOPICS/ 6 HOURS
BAR FRIDAY, SOFIA, BULGARIA
PHOTOMARATHON SOFIA 2017 IS OVER!

ABOUT US

Photomaraton is a project of FotoFabrika Fondation. It is a photographic competition where participants must produce a series of photographs on predefined topics in a given period of time.

2017 Photomarathon Sofia was held on June 3 and was organized by FotoFabrika Foundation. This challenge covered 2 topics in 6 hours. 92 participants finished the challenge.

As elsewhere in the world, the pictures have to be submitted straight from the camera. Editing or processing are not allowed. The jury evaluated anonymously the photographs taking into account the shooting technique and the creativity in interpreting the topic. Only entrants who finished the whole challenge were eligible.

The jury decided to give three awards for each themes. The topics were "The Hell" and "Closer". The winners are:

The Hell - 1st place for Gergana Chipinska; 2nd place for Kamen Zafirov, 3rd place for Liubomir Vasilev.

Closer - 1st place for Yaroslav Boshnakov; 2nd place for Yavor Blagoev; 3rd place for Vetsislav Kartselin.

At the same time there a Photomarathon for Kids was held at Institut Francais de Bulgarie. The topic was "Surreal Sofia".

There are over 80 such events around the world and the concept of Photomarathon began in Madrid in 1986. This year Sofia entered the international calendar of photomarathons in the world for a second time.

Photomarathon Sofia 2016 was organized by FotoFabrika with the financial support of Sofia Municipality, Program Europe 2016, together with the French Institute in Bulgaria, Société Générale Expressbank and Photosynthesis. It supports Sofia application for the European Month of Photography. The first big photomarathon in Sofia was held on September 10, 2016 with 3 topics for 6 hours. 144 participants finished the challenge.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I enter with a digital camera?

Yes. PhotoMarathon is a fully digital event.

Can I use my film camera?

Unfortunately not, we're sticking with digital only.

Can I use my camera phone?

Not for this time but it's something that we'll certainly consider for future editions depending on feedback.

Do I need to bring my own memory card?

Yes, you will need to bring your own memory card. It will need to be completely blank at the beginning of the PhotoMarathon, and our team will check this before you start. We will accept standard SD cards. If yours isn't a typical SD type please bring a USB cable for us to download your images at the end of the day.

Can I use multiple cameras?

No, we accept one camera only. Feel free to use different lens, filters etc though. No drones are accepted this time, sorry.

Can I use in-camera art filters?

If it's a filter you're applying prior to taking the photo, we will accept it, but we want to avoid post-processing of any kind. Multiple exposure is allowed.

Can I enter with a friend or in a group?

Absolutely! This is an opportunity for photographers to work together, as it often helps to get the creative inspiration flowing. If you're working in a team, and submitting one portfolio between you, you do need all the images on one memory card. Use one camera, submit one card.

How do I register a team?

If you want to compete in a team, you can either use your registration as a single competitor (better send us an e-mail using your e-mail for Photomarathon registration) and "surprise us" during the registration time, or if you are aware earlier that you will be competing in a team write your team first or last names during the registration. One mail for all, guys.

Where is HQ for the event day?

We're taking over the very busy heart of the city - Bar Friday for the whole day! They're located in a very photogenic inner yard on 21, Gurko Street. Definitely no parking for cars. See location.
